My 7 year old son has been a shark fanatic for as long as he’s known about them. He has put together quite an extensive collection of books and other shark treasures, this book has become one of his favorites. Since the day he received it, it has been sitting on his nightstand, within close reach. I see him reading and looking through this book more than any of the others that he has on sharks. He loves to come up with another ‘hey did you know’ fact to share, that he has learned from this book. Unlike some others that remain in near pristine condition; this one is dog eared, bent and shows all signs of being a loved book.
Inside you will find many fast facts, puzzles, mazes, riddles and the like mixed with a treasury of information about the beloved shark as a species. This has been a great book for both long and short reads, as you don’t have to sit and do the cover to cover traditional read that sometimes becomes daunting to the younger bunch. Each chapter/section is somewhat short yet chock full of great child friendly illustrations, shark and habitat facts and short games/puzzles.
If you have a shark fan or a child interested in learning a bit about different undersea critters, this may be a good choice for you. I know there are tons of shark books out there to choose from but if you talk to my 7yr old son, he would tell you that this is one of the best!!

My daughter entered puberty at 9, and I bought this book for her at 10. We looked through it together, and the pictures and small sections (easy to read, short) prompted many questions from her. Because the book has short chapters and small, easily identified sections within chapters, a young girl — who may not have the attention span of an older girl — can skip around, just view the pictures and read shorter sections to get just enough information to satisfy. I had on hand a few different mini and maxi pads, which she then wanted to ‘try on,’ giving the information and pictures in the book a more realistic dimmension.

As a high school science teacher, I am always looking for more great ways to introduce science to my preschool aged children. I think the experiments in here are fun, getting the kids interested in what is happening and does a good job of explaining they why’s of the experiment and giving some quality follow up questions. The only reason I didn’t rate the book a 5 star is because I wish it has some better pictures and way to present the material, but the content is great.

The Boy’s Body Book: Everything You Need to Know for Growing Up YOU (Boys World Books) Review
This is one of the most refreshing books out there for boys. It does a terrific job presenting important facts about navigating through puberty. It covers school work to sibling rivalries, to sports, bullies, personal hygiene, and the changes taking place to their young adolescent bodies. Thankfully, it does not go into the topic of sexual relations, so it gracefully leaves that to us parents and professional educators. And the design is perfect. My son embraced this book because of it’s great illustrated style, and the fact that he can pick it up and read any section out of turn… and it has wonderful side bars filled with information that I know he’s interested in… he didn’t have to read it cover to cover to find answers to questions he definitely has going through his head… I found it lying on the floor next to his bed, face down opened to a page about household chores — Perhaps there’s hope that he’ll start picking up his room on his own! Great book… not just for my son but for me!

The Girl’s Body Book: Everything You Need to Know for Growing Up YOU (Girlsworld) Review
This is a great book for girls on the younger end of puberty. It tells them everything they need to know about how their bodies are changing but doesn’t go into the talk about sex that most girls this age aren’t ready for. I like that it treats the information in a straight-forward manner and presents potentially embarrassing elements as no big deal.
What I like about this book compared to the American Girls book, is that this book also talks about the social aspects of growing up–bullies, changing relationships, friends, that kind of thing. It does mention boys, but only as friends and–someday–boyfriends.
Overall, I would highly recommend this for the (mature) 8-year-old to the average 14-year-old. Another nice aspect of this book are the quotes from the real girls. They can go a long way toward helping a tween realize she isn’t alone in all this puberty stuff.
