The Ranger’s Apprentice Collection Review

in the manner of 1001 nights…Mr. Flannagen leads you on to the next book…so have the next one on hand before you start! I’m a 63 year old grandma reading this series and discussing with g’son. I can’t put these things down. I finish one and immediately start the next….I know I will go back and reread the whole series when I finish what has been written. I almost had a panic attack when I thought I’d left the current one I’m reading home and not available for lunch hour reading. Full of adventure and action it has enough human story and emotion to satisfy girls too. Highly recommend this series for a parent or grandparent to give to the younger members of their family or friends. The Ranger’s Apprentice Collection

The Burning Bridge (The Ranger’s Apprentice, Book 2) Review

In the sequel to The Ranger’s Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan and the second book in the Ranger’s Apprentice series, Will and Horace join Gilan in a mission to warn Celtica of the impending war. Things are not as they should be in Celtica and the group must split up. Gilan rides ahead to warn the King’s army while Will and Horace follow with a girl who is not who she appears to be. Will, Horace and the girl encounter a group of wargals causing them to change their plans. With action at every turn Flanagan entices the reader to turn the page. This book will make the readers of this series want more. Readers will want to read The Ruins of Gorlan prior to The Burning Bridge. Readers will also want to make sure they have the third installment in The Ranger’s Apprentice series, The Icebound Land on hand after finishing The Burning Bridge.

The Burning Bridge (The Ranger’s Apprentice, Book 2) Overview

The Ranger’s Apprentice Collection Review

My 10 year old son read the first book, Ruins of Gorland, in 2 days and then begged me to get the rest of the books in the series….he loves these stories. We have been reading together and he wants one more chapter, one more chapter! i love hearing that from a boy who until recently read just because he HAD to for school and now he is reading for the pure joy of it! What more could a mom ask for! The stories are fast paced, full of detail, tons of action and suspense throughout. Characters are fun, adventurous, relatable and have personality that resonates through this authors writing skill. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SERIES.

The Ruins of Gorlan (The Ranger’s Apprentice, Book 1) Review

A major conflict in this book is that bear like monsters called, Kalkaras are killing off major warriors in the last war against Morgarath and a second war is starting. The rangers apprentice Will and his master Halt have to defeat the Kalkaras before they reach the kingdom. The first is killed by Baron Alyron and Halt. The second is killed by Will who shoots a flamog arrow at the kalkara and sets it on fire. This is how they resolved this conflict.

If I were the author of this book, my jacket blurb would be like this:

Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night, is trying everything he can to get into the Kingdom to seek his revenge. The Rangers, being very sneaky, try to find ways to block Morgorath and his armies from breaking through. Will, a young thief, is recruited to be a part of the shadowy group by Halt, the Master of the apprentice. Will Morgarath be defeated or will his evil plot to destroy kingdom? Book 1 of this series will keep you excited until the end.

I would recommend this book to other kids my age. It was very exciting. It will make you lose track of time. Kids who like to read fantasy will like this book and will want to read the others in the series. Some adults might like it too if they are interested in Fantasy.

My interpretation of the theme of this book is explained by the following example: My dad is an electrical engineer and I want to be an engineer just because my dad is one. I try to be an engineer, but do not do very well. I then try to do something else that I have never done before like a computer programmer. I find out that I am very good at this naturally and continue to do this for a long time.

The Ruins of Gorlan (The Ranger’s Apprentice, Book 1) Overview

He had always wanted to be a warrior. The Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways, made him nervous. The villagers believe the Rangers practice magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now fifteen year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger?s apprentice. What he doesn?t realize yet is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Highly trained in the skills of battle and surveillance, they fight the battles before the battles reach the people. And as Will is about to learn, there is a large battle brewing. The exiled Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night, is gathering his forces for an attack on the kingdom. This time, he will not be denied . . . .
