Wow!…was my first reaction when I opened this book. All the ‘guts’ of pop-up mechanisms, with notes on ratios and relative sizes. This is not a how-to book, or a children’s book, but a conceptual guide to the magic of pop-ups. Think of it as a dictionary of pop-up mechanisms.
The examples are mounted so that you can see both the presentation side and the hidden mechanisms. The samples are white, with occasional notations printed on the pop-up. No color printing to distract from the form unless it is part of the mechanism (e.g. the moir? pop-up). Included are your standard pop-up forms, various shapes and boxes, dials, pull-tabs and some fascinating sliders and spinners.

Believe it or not, the first known pop-up element in a book appeared in an astrological manuscript in 1306. During the ensuing centuries, movable mechanics were used in more and more books–but only for adults.
